The Feminist Label

I do not introduce myself as a feminist and neither will you see it in my bio or resumé. However, if you ask me, I will say YES I am a feminist. Why would I deny it? My words and actions already prove it.

Some people hurl the word “feminist” at you like it’s a cuss words or an insult and you should bury your head in the sand in shame for being labelled as one. LMAO. I own my feminist status with my full chest.

I will forever find it absurd that society has painted the feminist ideology as evil and an abomination, when in reality all the women in your house would be unable to read, write or even own businesses or have jobs if not for feminism.

Thanks to feminism I am a graduate of a university, I can further my education to whatever heights I desire and can hold any position I want as long as I’m qualified. Why then will you think I should feel shamed and insulted for being called a believer in the movement that has afforded me these privileges and many more?

One other thing I find absolutely absurd is the saying that “today’s feminist/feminism” is losing the original focus and should stick to the initial goal of feminism which was economical and yada yada.

What nonsense! I would have you know that the early women rights movement, apart from fighting for the right to vote, attend schools and have jobs, fought for reproductive rights, equality within marriage and the right to have bodily autonomy.

In fact, their feminism was louder, angrier and is the most radical of all. You don’t see any feminist burning their bras today, do you?

So, before you hurl the word “feminist” at me like it’s a weapon of mass destruction, I admonish you to read, educate yourself, acknowledge the fact that for every movement extremists abound and this in no way undermines the basic tenets of the belief.

Thank you!
